This section is an account of our two trips to Canada last year (07) and just recently which included a few days in Chicago too. Although primary holidays which included travelling on the "Canadian", "Rocky Mountaineer" (twice) and the "Whistler Mountaineer", on a few occasions took the opportunity of some train photography. These are my first encounter's of what I call proper (freight) trains. Yes approx 1 mile long and take 5+ minutes to pass you! The majority of the freight trains in the country are operated by Canadian National (CN), & Canadian Pacific (CF) Railroads who operate on their own lines, but BNSF also feature too. As for the passenger trains, they are operated by "Via Rail" with the odd cross border train by USA operater "Amtrak". In the main cities, they have their own local operaters including "AMT" (Montreal), "Go Transit" (Toronto) and "Metra" (Chicago) to name but a few.

Fortunately the weather was kind on occasions and some reasonable images obtained. Some images you may notice have been taken from either the "Canadian" and "Rocky Mountaineer" trains which was not easy. As for the trains themselves - absolutely superb and travelling through wide & varied but spectaular scenery does make it one of "the" train journeys of the world. Also included are some other forms of transport noted on our travels. Looking forward to going back, especially to Chicago, that is for sure. Enjoy. UPDATED 10th JANUARY 09.

The site owners "home" area which covers a wide selection of rail lines & motive power. Contrary to popular belief, Merseyside has a considerable variety of freight especially from to & from Liverpool Docks as well as traffic originating South Liverpool (Garston / Speke). Likewise there are some good photographic locations around and you will see a small selection in this collection of images dated from 2000 onwards. UPDATED: 21st AUGUST 09.

The site owners home area which covers the period from 1980 to 1999. Over these twenty years you will see the gradual changes from the BR Blue period, through Sectorisation and onto the privisation period. Some say this was one of the most interesting railway periods ever especially when it comes to variety of motive power and the splash of colour! This section covers the numerous rail lines in Merseyside, and some of the loco hauled passenger & freight flows some of which is now history and never to be repeated - happy days may be? Over the last few years the boundaries of Cheshire have expanded as nowadays you include Widnes, north of the Mersey as well as Warrington. The remainder of the country is also covered including its associated link to the North Wales Coast Lines. UPDATED: 21st AUGUST 09.

As the title suggests this section will cover the rail lines in the area from Preston down to the boundaries of Merseyside, Cheshire and of Greater Manchester. UPDATED: 6th APRIL 08

This section covers the railways in the remainder of England outside the North West. Will feature variety of locations and motive power on both passenger & freight. UPDATED: 21st AUGUST 09

This section covers the odds & sods of railway miscellany that is not covered in the other sections of the website. Examples of these could be, is exterior & interior of signal boxes, various past railway buildings, nameplates etc. Most of the above comes from or connection Merseyside but wont exclude other locations around the UK.
